Insights from these Inspiring Moms

What inspired you to start your fitness journey, and how has being a mother influenced that decision?

“I was a college athlete and I’ve always loved being active, but since becoming a mother my fitness mindset has really shifted – going to the gym or a fitness class has become more of a luxury these days. Now, I view fitness as an opportunity to fill my cup so I can be a better wife and mother. So while fitness is something I do for myself daily, my ‘why’ behind doing it is to better serve my family.” -Lindsey

How do you balance motherhood with maintaining an active fitness routine?

“It can definitely be challenging to balance both motherhood responsibilities and staying active. After I had Rosie, I had to be more realistic about time and remind myself that my workouts may be shorter or less frequent. Sometimes getting in an hour workout isn’t possible. I try to get my workouts in before my toddler gets up, and then stay active throughout the day. I also love to incorporate Rosie into activities!” Calyn

What does your typical fitness schedule look like, and how do you make time for it?

“I work out anywhere from 3 to 6 times a week. Some sessions are just 25 minutes, while others can be 2 hours long—it really depends on my schedule. Most of my workouts happen in my home studio, whether I’m filming for my on-demand platform or doing my own practice. Every now and then, I’ll take a group Pilates class, and I make sure to get in a daily walk with my dog.” -Gabrielle

“I aim for 5-10 mins of mobility and 10K steps daily and then I’m usually strength training 4 days a week with 2 rest days and 1 run or more cardio based day.” - Lindsey

What challenges do you face as a fitness-focused mom, and how do you overcome them?

“Finding time for it all. Not getting frustrated when my kids also wake up early and crash my morning workout party in the basement. Being adaptable and doing the best with the time I do have.” - Lindsey

“The biggest challenge is finding time to work out when my daughter is with me. Now that she’s getting older, I try to include her in fun mat workouts, but let’s be real—a 4-year-old’s attention span is short! I remind myself that quality time with her is more important than squeezing in a “perfect” workout. I get my exercise in while she’s at school, so when we’re together, I focus on being present with her. If I ever feel the urge to move but don’t have time for a full workout, we’ll crank up the music and have a dance party. She out-dances me every time!” - Gabrielle

What advice would you give to other mothers looking to incorporate more movement into their lives?

“It can feel overwhelming when wanting to incorporate more movement: where to start, what type of movement to do, etc. But some movement is better than nothing! I’d start small, adding in even ten minutes of movement a day can make a difference. Something is always better than nothing!” -Calyn

Walking is the most underrated form of exercise and an opportunity to include your kids. I find that some of my best quality time and conversations happen with my kids while walking to the park or going on a walk around the neighborhood.” -Lindsey

How does staying active make you feel both physically and mentally as a mom?

“It’s everything. Feeling good in my body and mind allows me to be the best version of myself for my daughter. Pilates, in particular, helps with core strength and body alignment—both of which are crucial as a mom. The mindful, low-impact movements help me de-stress, recharge, and take a moment for myself.” -Gabrielle

“I love it! I always feel like a better, more present mom after I’ve gotten my own workout in. And I feel that doing physically hard things makes me much better equipped to handle all the mentally tough things I face daily as a mom.” -Lindsey

How do you incorporate your family into your fitness routine, if at all?

“We love going on walks together—whether it’s with our dog or to the bakery or bookstore (a great incentive for our daughter to join us!). Bike rides are another favorite when the weather is nice. And of course, kitchen dance parties are always a hit in our house!” -Gabrielle

With my specific type of job, Rosie is constantly seeing me staying active. Whether it’s filming workout videos for FORM or getting in additional movement. I try to incorporate Rosie into fitness in a fun way! We go on bike rides together and walks around the neighborhood with our Cockapoo Penny” -Calyn

What’s one fitness goal you’re currently working toward, and how do you stay motivated?

“I’m currently striving for 15 consecutive pull ups and I love having ‘hang competitions’ with my kids at the park! I also love showing my kids that mom is strong and can do pull ups too.” -Lindsey

“Currently focused on my hydration and increasing electrolytes! I workout frequently so it’s beneficial to stay as hydrated as I can. I have been loving adding different flavored electrolytes to my water because it tastes so good and makes it easier :)” - Calyn

“Right now, I’m focused on improving my cardio. Walking my dog is a great way to sneak in some endurance training since my neighborhood is full of hills. I’m also trying to fit in 20-minute treadmill runs when I can, but honestly, it’s been tough finding the time. I struggle with it just like everyone else—but I remind myself that any movement is better than none!” -Gabrielle
