Meet Kristal Ruiz: The Heart Behind myPilates Purpose

Meet Kristal Ruiz: The Heart Behind myPilates Purpose

We’re excited to introduce Kristal Ruiz—San Diego-based instructor and founder of myPilates Purpose—as our latest collaborator in bringing meaningful movement to the Pointe Studio community. With six years of teaching experience, Kristal’s unique approach combines strength, flow, and purpose. Get to know her more and the story behind her purpose.

How did you first discover Pilates, and what inspired you to turn it into your purpose?

I first discovered Pilates when my friend invited me to a reformer class. I was definitely the type of person that thought Pilates was easy BUT after that first class I was completely hooked! I started going to Pilates almost every day and after a year of training, I decided to go through the certification program. I mainly did it to get better at my own practice, I never thought I would actually become an instructor. But after going through a breakup and wanting to stay as busy as possible I decided to start teaching. That was 6 years ago!! Funny how life works out the way it’s meant to. Now I couldn’t imagine not teaching! I started my own online platform 2 years ago and now get to workout with hundreds of women all over the world. I’m so grateful for what I get to do.

What’s the mission behind myPilates Purpose? What do you hope clients take away from your classes?

My purpose for starting myPilates Purpose was to make Pilates accessible and affordable for all women! Studio memberships can be pretty expensive and I don’t want anyone to miss out on the benefits of Pilates because they can’t afford it. My goal is for women to feel their best mentally and physically. I love hearing how much my classes has helped women.

What do you think makes Pilates such an empowering form of movement, especially for women?

My classes are designed to make you feel feminine and strong at the same time. You don’t have to choose between Pilates and the gym. My unique style combines both Pilates and strength training methods. It’s the best of both worlds!

What motivates you on days when movement feels a little harder or when life gets busy?

This is a great question! Running your own business isn’t easy and this year has definitely been a bit more challenging. But what keeps me going is my passion for Pilates and knowing how much my platform is helping women. I have big dreams and my internal drive to succeed also keeps me going. Nothing worth achieving is going to be easy. You just gotta push through.

What are your go-to Pilates moves for building strength and stability?

I love adding weights to my workouts! It’s so much fun combining Pilates moves with weights and finding new ways to challenge your balance. I really love standing workouts and lately I’ve been using the block a lot! It’s my new favorite prop.

How do you foster community within your classes or online community?

We have a community chat and we communicate through the comments section on the workouts. I love seeing everyone interact with each other. We also run challenges with prizes to keep the momentum going. I can’t wait for you to join us!

What tips would you give to someone trying Pilates for the first time?

Don’t skip the beginner workouts! This is the biggest mistake that I see. You need to learn the foundations of Pilates before moving into more advanced classes. I have a 4 week beginner program on my platform.

What’s your favorite recovery/post-workout ritual?

I love a good shower, light stretching and a good meal. Eat your protein ladies!!

Any exciting things coming in the future that you would like to share?

Yes!! In July we’re rebranding the app name from myPilates Purpose to Shapelates! Im so excited for this name change as it encompasses my unique style of blending Pilates with strength, sculpt and cardio workouts! I will let all subscribers know when the name change officially happens but until then everything stays the same!
